Welcome! I'm Alyssa, a Certified and Licensed Midwife, Certified Doula, and Certified Lactation Specialist with experience in over 1,000 births across home, birth center, and hospital settings.
My husband and I are blessed with four amazing children, and our family joyfully includes our granddaughter and grandson, from our eldest daughter and son-in-law.
I hold multiple certifications as a Midwife, Doula, and Lactation Specialist ,with licensure in other jurisdictions. Despite Ohio not yet offering licensure for homebirth midwifery, we hope to see this change in 2025.
Please note homebirth is legal in Ohio, just not officially regulated and licensed as it is in most other states.
I have served as clinical faculty in Women’s Health and Obstetrics at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine's PA graduate program.
Joining me in practice is Madison, my midwifery student. Madison, a dedicated wife and mother of five, is currently enrolled in midwifery school and gaining her clinical experience with us.
I am a registered Midwifery student preceptor for NARM CPM and IRM CIM credentialing programs. We welcome midwifery students seeking skills sign-offs for NARM and IRM. Although we currently don't have availability for another full-time student, we are happy to assist with skills or temporary student education.
My experience extends to breastfeeding difficulties caused by birth trauma or infant anatomical abnormalities, including tongue tie, lip tie, high palate, and cleft palate. In the event that tongue/lip tie revision (Frenectomy) is needed for your baby, for the last decade I’ve been in partnership with a local dentist in order to provide these laser treatments. This dentist is a former homebirth dad of our practice, is well versed in infant oral anatomy and how it relates to breastfeeding, facial development, airway, dental development and overall lifelong health.
I have advanced training in prenatal and perinatal psychology, integrative nutrition, clinical herbalism, and genetics/genomics, along with training and experience in vaginal breech and twin deliveries.
I hold extensive international midwifery experience and ensure I am always up-to-date through ongoing accredited continuing education.
Our practice maintains a collaborative agreement with an incredible homebirth supportive Board Certified OBGYN, in order to provide the best evidence based care, seamless consultation and prescriptions if needed.
We share an office with a kind and skilled Family Physician in the Akron area. We highly recommend her for family primary care, holistic well-baby and well-child exams, as well as Homeopathy and Osteopathic Bodywork.
Beyond Ahava Midwifery, I own a nutritional supplement company and serve as the Advocacy and Advancement Director of an international midwifery organization.
Please take a look at our Ahava Care Program that assists the local homeless community, and offers free and low cost prenatal/postpartum care and supplies to local families in need.
To ensure our practice remains sustainable and offers high-quality individual care, we accept a very limited number of births per month. If you are considering our service, please contact us for an interview as soon as pregnancy is confirmed.
Please feel free to contact us by email, we look forward to speaking with you!
